Headlines

Wayanad landslide : Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Wednesday that if the Kerala government had been cautious on the warning of the Center about possible landslides and had shifted people from landslide-prone areas to safer places earlier, then the loss of life and property in Wayanad and other places could have been reduced. However, he said that this is the time to stand with Kerala. The Home Minister said that after 2014, the world’s best early warning systems have been installed in India. There are very few countries that assess and forecast disasters seven days in advance. India is among the few four-five countries that do this.

It is time to stand like a rock with the people-Shah

Responding to the discussion on the attention motion brought in the House on the natural disaster, he said that whether it is the Government of India or any political party, this time of disaster is for (everyone) to stand like a rock with the people of Wayanad. The Union Minister said that he has deep condolences for those who lost their loved ones or those who were injured in this tragic disaster.

A total of Rs 2,300 crore was spent on the system

He said that India has the world’s most modern ‘early warning alert system’ and after 2014, India is one of the three-four countries that share forecast seven days before the disaster and a total of Rs 2300 crore has been spent on this system. Shah said that before 2014, only rescue and rehabilitation used to happen at the time of disaster, but during the Modi government, attention has been paid to carrying out rescue work in such a way that no one’s life is lost and the loss is minimal.

Will not leave people alone in trouble- Home Minister

He said that it is the job of the central government to develop and improve the relevant technology, but under cooperative federalism, it is the job of the state government to remove people.
