Himanta Biswa Sarma’s BJP government in Assam is likely to soon bring a law providing life imprisonment in cases related to ‘love jihad’. Speaking at the state BJP executive meeting, he said, ‘We had talked about ‘love jihad’ during the elections. We will soon bring a law which will provide life imprisonment in such cases.’
Decision taken regarding land sale between Hindus and Muslims
Sarma said that a new domicile policy will be introduced soon, under which only people born in Assam will be eligible for state government jobs. He said that indigenous people have got priority in the ‘one lakh government jobs’ given as promised before the elections, which will be clear when the full list is published.
The CM said that the Assam government has also taken a decision regarding the sale of land between Hindus and Muslims. Sarma said that although the government cannot stop such transactions, it has been made mandatory to take the consent of the Chief Minister before going ahead with it.

Bill related to love jihad passed in UP
The bill related to love jihad was passed in the UP assembly last Tuesday. This bill now provides for life imprisonment for the accused. In this law, the punishment for many crimes has been doubled. Many new crimes have also been added under love jihad. Let us tell you that the bill related to this was presented in the House by the Yogi government on Monday.
The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh made the first law against love jihad in 2020. After this, the UP government passed the Prohibition of Religious Conversion Bill 2021 in the Assembly. This bill had a provision of punishment ranging from 1 to 10 years. There was a provision in this bill that religious conversion done only for marriage would be considered invalid.
