The village head did not even spare the money received on the death of 4 daughters, committed fraud of Rs 6 lakh, case registered

A shocking case of corruption has come to light in Balrampur, UP. A case has been filed against the village head for allegedly committing fraud in the ex-gratia amount given by the government after four daughters of the same family died due to drowning.

Police on Saturday registered a case against the village head for allegedly defrauding a man of Rs 6 lakh from the ex-gratia amount received after his four daughters drowned in a river, officials said.

According to news agency ANI, the incident took place on June 18 when four sisters – Reshma (13), Afsana (11), Guddi (9) and Lalli (7) – drowned after they ventured into deep waters in the Kuano river in Kalu Bankat village.

Officials said the state government deposited an ex-gratia of Rs 16 lakh in the family’s bank account through the department on July 16. They said a few days later, village head Jabir took Rs 6 lakh from the family in the name of bribing senior officials.

He said that after this, the mother of the deceased sisters lodged a complaint against Jabir on Friday. DM Pawan Agarwal said on Saturday, ‘The allegations of the woman were investigated. Her claim that Gram Pradhan Jabir fraudulently took Rs 6 lakh from the ex-gratia amount given to the victim’s family was proved to be true, after which a case has been registered.
