The terror of man-eating wolves is not stopping in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. So far 10 people have lost their lives in wolf attacks. Forest department and administration teams are constantly trying to catch the man-eating wolves, some have been caught, but their terror is still continuing. Late Thursday night, a wolf fatally attacked a 10-year-old child standing at the door of his house.

Sangam, the 10-year-old son of Kalal Yadav, a resident of Golawa Mauja Yadavpur in Dehat Kotwali area, was standing at the door of his house late on Thursday night. Then a wolf attacked him. The bloody paw of the man-eater hit the child’s face. The wolf’s nails have caused deep wounds on the child’s cheeks. He has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment. When the child screamed, the family ran towards him, hearing the noise the wolf fled from the spot, otherwise the child could have lost his life.

Meanwhile, Chief Forest Conservator Renu Singh reached Harbaksh Purwa village in Bahraich on Thursday night and took stock of the operation being carried out to search for the wolf. Talking to the media, she said, ‘The search operation is on to catch the wolves. We have caught four wolves so far. Two wolves are yet to be caught. We have mapped the area where they are attacking children and divided it into three sectors. We are trying to track them using thermal drones.’

In view of the wolf attacks in 25-30 villages under Mahsi tehsil in Bahraich range, forest officials are patrolling sector-wise day and night. Sector in-charges have been instructed to prepare a strategy to protect against wolves. The forest department, police department and district administration have deployed forest guards to conduct night patrolling in the affected areas, as a result of which no incident has occurred at night. Thermal drones are being used to locate the wolf and foot search operations are being carried out in the Kachari area.

A command center has been set up at the forest division level. Necessary instructions are being given from here to the teams working in Sector 1, 2 and 3. A wolf was spotted in Pachedevri village of Sector 3 using a thermal drone. Efforts are on to catch it. Also, various administrative teams are running awareness campaigns. Police and forest department teams are jointly patrolling the villages and villagers have been advised to keep their children safe and keep the doors of their houses closed at night.
