I’m not the biggest Spider-Man fan, even if an actor has played the hero since Sony started making these movies. My favorite Spidey actually comes from the animated universe. This The Spider-Verse Easily the funnest Spider Man category
I say as one MCU A fan who understands how important Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is to this universe of films. More importantly, I’d say someone is finally excited about it Spider Man The movie is that next Spider-Man 4The release date of which is yet to be announced.
So says the latest rumours Spider-Man 4 will premiere in between Avengers: Doomsday And Avengers: Secret Wars. The film may have elements of the multiverse No Way Home. I often explained why trying to match the success of No Way Home Wrong approach, and I’ll do it again.
This time, I’ll use Jon Watts’ explanation for why he’s not directing a fourth Spider Man A flick in the MCU. Some spoilers may follow below.

Why Spider-Man 4 is exciting
I’m tired of seeing the same Peter Parker story over and over again. Sony and Marvel Mostly avoided with Tom Holland’s trilogy, but the vibe was similar. We still have a teenage Peter Parker discovering his powers and his great responsibility. The MCU needed that moment.
But come on Spider-Man 4We are entering new territory. Gone are the high school years. Peter is going to college in a universe that has seen tremendous drama. We’re still in the years after the blip, when half the world, including Spidey, has vanished from existence.
Not only does he come to terms with it, but he loses what he had while simultaneously discovering that the multiverse is real. As a reminder, No Way Home Gave us Peter Parker, who lost his aunt a few months after the death of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.).
Then he dropped all other meaningful connections in his life and the world forgot about him. Even MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) have forgotten him.
After all, he no longer has access to the Stark Spider-Man suit tech that turned Spidey into the ultimate superhero. Spider-Man must protect his friendly neighborhood on his own.
This makes everything Spider-Man 4 Very exciting. It’s the start of a new Spidey trilogy under the MCU umbrella, telling another story from Sony Spider Man Versions are not quite found.
What are Watts’ warnings?
Spider-Man 4 No director yet, and Jon Watts doesn’t seem to. Fans of the MCU trilogy may have hoped that the director responsible for it back home, away from homeAnd No Way Home Will return, but it’s not happening.
While promoting his new film the wolfJohn Watts explained The Hollywood Reporter This made him feel alienated from the MCU. The director saw No Way Home At a theater in December 2021, considering the audience’s reaction to the movie.
as THR He puts it, “The audience was standing, screaming, crying and generally moving in such a way that even for the first showing of a fan-favorite superhero film, it was a spectacle in itself.”
“It was such a specific moment in time, and the reaction to that movie was so incredible,” Watts said of the experience. It was then that he realized “this will never happen again.”
I think he is simultaneously right and wrong about that. Sony and Marvel should consider this as they create Spider-Man 4.
Trying to recreate the magic of No Way Home in Spider-Man 4 is futile. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield jump into the action, reprising their Spider-Man characters. No Way Home. You can’t pull off the same surprises and expect the same results so soon. No Way Home Grossing nearly $2 billion at the box office, it was a hit with audiences for this reason. It’s too soon to try to repeat.
Rumors over the past few months have said that Sony wants to Spider-Man 4 to be as large as No Way Home. The sequel should also be a multiverse movie, with Maguire and Garfield returning in some capacity. I hope that won’t be the case, though. Time for a soft reboot, and the multiverse aspect should be minimal here. However, I do see why the multiverse hooks Doomsday And Secret Wars may be required.
Watts is also wrong. Whether he or someone else directs a future movie involving Spider-Man, I’m sure Marvel will be able to emulate people’s reactions. Financial success will match those reactions. Recently released Deadpool and Wolverine Proof that the MCU can still surprise audiences.
It can’t be Spider-Man 4where multiple Spider-Man variants fight side-by-side. It might not even be a Sony movie. But I’m sure we’ll see the Holland-Maguire-Garfield trio Secret Wars With other beloved Marvel characters that will make the crowd go wild again. Sony and Marvel will have to wait to fix things.
