‘The society where women are not safe is tainted…’, after the President, now the Vice President expressed anger on the Kolkata rape and murder case

The uproar over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical Hospital continues. After President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has also issued a statement amid the anger of people across the country over the rape.

Vice President Dhankar has said that a society where women and girls do not feel safe is not civilized. That democracy is tainted, it is the biggest obstacle in our progress. This kind of fear in the minds of women is a matter of national concern.

Addressing a program at Bharti College of Delhi University, the Vice President said that today we are standing at a crossroads. The President has also said that enough is enough. There is a need to pay attention to this. There should be zero tolerance towards such crimes.

President Murmu also expressed disappointment

Earlier, President Murmu had also expressed her anger over the Kolkata incident and said that enough is enough. She had said that she was disappointed and horrified by this entire incident. Such crimes against daughters are not acceptable.

Regarding the increasing incidents of crime against women in the country, he had said that no civilized society can tolerate such atrocities against daughters and sisters. Students, doctors and citizens were protesting in Kolkata over this incident while the criminals were roaming somewhere else. Now enough is enough. Society needs to be honest and introspect.

What is Kolkata rape and murder case?

On August 9, the body of a 31-year-old female trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical Hospital. Her clothes were missing from her body. She was bleeding. There were marks of injuries on her body. After this incident, the resident doctors became angry and went on strike. The police have arrested the accused Sanjay Roy in the case. When the matter escalated, the High Court handed over the investigation to the CBI. Later, the Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the matter and ordered the CBI to file a progress report of the investigation so far. After this, the CBI filed a status report in the court.
