The rise of Islamic groups in Bangladesh is worrying for India, conflict may increase in the northeastern states

Internal conflict within the Bangladesh Army has further complicated the situation. The army’s ability to deal with the current crisis and violence is now in question. These internal divisions are not only weakening the army’s effectiveness but also making it more vulnerable to external manipulation.

The rise of Jamaat-e-Islami is worrying for India

The influence of Islamist groups such as Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh has long been a cause of concern for India. These groups, with their economic resources and ideological ties, pose a major threat to regional stability. Recent political upheaval has given these groups an opportunity to consolidate their position, potentially leading to an increase in radical activities.

Jamaat-e-Islami has played a major role in Bangladesh politics. The group’s involvement in violent activities, including large-scale bombings in 2005, led to a crackdown by the government, but recent instability may have led the group to regain influence.

Conflict may spread to northeastern states

The instability in Bangladesh and the rise of radical Islamist governments there have posed challenges to India’s security and diplomatic relations. The current situation threatens to further strain these relations. This crisis not only reflects past injustices but also raises concerns about the possibility of widespread communal and ethnic conflict that could spill over into neighbouring regions, especially India’s sensitive northeastern states.

India’s security concerns are further exacerbated by the possibility of migration of Islamist groups into its northeastern states, where they could fuel existing ethnic conflicts. The situation in Bangladesh could have a direct impact on India’s internal security.
