‘The rifle failed me in Tokyo Olympics, but this time you did…’, PM Modi spoke to Manu Bhaker

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called star shooter Manu Bhaker, who won the bronze medal in Paris Olympics 2024, and congratulated her. With this medal, India’s medal account has been opened in Paris Olympics. Manu Bhaker has created history by winning bronze with a score of 221.7 in the 10 meter air pistol event. Manu has become the first Indian woman to win any medal in shooting.

Along with congratulating Manu Bhaker on the phone, PM Modi also asked about the well-being of the other fellow players. PM Modi told Manu that the rifle had failed in the Tokyo Olympics, but this time you made up for all the shortcomings and won the medal.

PM Modi said on the phone, ‘Many congratulations to you, many many congratulations. I am very excited and happy after hearing the news of your success. Although the silver medal was missed by point one (.1). But despite that you brought glory to the country. You are getting two types of credit. Firstly, you have won the bronze medal and you are the first woman from India to win a medal in shooting. Congratulations from my side.’

He said, ‘Look, the rifle failed you in the Tokyo Olympics. But this time you made up for all the shortcomings. I have full hope that you will do well in the future too, the start is very good, due to which your enthusiasm will increase and your confidence will also increase. The country will also benefit from this. Are all the other colleagues happy and content there?’

PM Modi further said, ‘We have also tried to ensure that our players get good facilities there. We have tried to provide them with comfort from the sports point of view. Your hard work is going to pay off. Have you talked about it at home? Your father will also be very happy because he has encouraged you a lot.’
