Preeti Sudan joined UPSC in the year 2022 and has now been appointed to the post of Chairman. Preeti Sudan, a resident of Haryana, passed the UPSC exam in the year 1983. Not only UPSC, Preeti Sudan has also worked as Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development and Defense, as well as the Department of Food and Public Distribution. Preeti is an IAS of Andhra Pradesh cadre, with extensive experience of 37 years, she retired as Union Health Secretary in July 2020. After joining UPSC, she has given correct opinion in many important decisions. In view of her work, it has been decided to make her the chairman.

Preeti Sudan is known for banning e-cigarettes

Preeti Sudan has contributed to the work of the National Medical Commission, Allied Health Professional Commission, apart from the major Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign and Ayushman Bharat Mission. Apart from this, Preeti Sudan is given the credit for making a law on the ban on e-cigarettes. Talking about Preeti Sudan’s educational qualification, she has obtained an M.Phil degree in Economics. Apart from this, she has done MSc in Social Science from London School of Economics and Social Science LSE, London.

Rules for appointment of UPSC Chairman

The President directly appoints the Chairman and members of the UPSC. This appointment is made under Article 316 (1) of the Constitution. At least half of the members are members of a public service (serving or retired) who have at least 10 years of experience under the Government of India or a state. Under Article 317, only the President can remove the Chairman and other members of the UPSC from their posts. Let us tell you that the members of the UPSC hold their posts for a period of 6 years from the date of assuming their office or till they attain the age of 65 years (whichever is earlier). The age limit for the members of the State Commission or the Joint Commission is 62 years.
