‘The police were asking us for help, the mob wanted to destroy the seminar hall, the nurse described the scene of the attack in the hospital

‘We were very scared, we were crying. There was a violent mob around us that wanted to destroy everything. The people (policemen) who were standing outside the hospital to help us till some time ago were also expecting protection from us. This was a terrible experience. It is possible that some female employees will be mistreated again tomorrow.’ This is the pain of a nurse of the same RG Kar Hospital of Kolkata where the mob vandalized on Wednesday night. In this same hospital, a doctor was raped and murdered about a week ago.

To understand the story, let’s go back a bit.

On the intervening night of 8-9, a doctor was raped and murdered in RG Kar Hospital. Protests have been going on all over the country for the last several days regarding this. Doctors are also a part of this protest. Meanwhile, many left organizations announced to protest in large numbers outside the hospitals on Wednesday night. Crowds started gathering outside RG Kar Hospital after around 10 pm. At 11.20 pm, the crowd broke the barricade and entered inside.

I saw two faces in this crowd.

There was one surprising thing about what happened on Wednesday. Actually, on one side of the barricade were people who were appealing to the people shouting slogans on the other side to remain calm. There were students of RG Kar Hospital and some helpless policemen too. But on the other side there was a crowd that wanted to break the barricade and enter the hospital. It can be seen in many viral videos that some people were constantly shaking the barricade.

The tablets of justice fell to the ground and.

Suddenly the crowd went out of control. Many of those who were carrying placards demanding ‘justice’ now had sticks in their hands. They were inside the hospital. Seeing this violent form of the crowd, a few policemen also ran inside to save their lives where there were many hospital staff. Among them were women too.

Then what happened. The mob broke whatever they saw. They even reached the place where the heinous act was committed against the doctor. Every corner of the hospital was vandalized. Now questions are being raised on this form of the mob which has been strengthened by this statement of a nurse…

What did the nurse tell you.

In a special conversation with Aaj Tak, a nurse who was present in the hospital that night expressed her pain. She said, ‘They wanted to destroy the seminar room (where the doctor was raped and murdered), this was their main aim. They tried to enter the third floor but they could not. They destroyed the second floor. There were not many policemen inside the emergency ward either. The policemen were asking us for help. They were saying hide us somewhere in your ward. We were so scared that all our junior and senior nurses were crying. It is possible that another case of misbehavior happened yesterday. We all left the premises crying. This was a horrifying experience for us.’

Was there a conspiracy?

Kolkata Police says that some unidentified miscreants vandalised the medical college after carrying out an RG. A group of about 40 people were among the protesters. These people perpetrated the violence in the hospital.

Questions are being raised that the motive behind the violence that took place in the hospital on Wednesday was to destroy evidence. The protesters had broken all the CCTV cameras of the hospital. However, the investigation of the case is ongoing. But whatever happened raises many serious questions.
