In Muzaffarpur, the police have arrested a fraudster who used to change the IMEI code of mobile phones and then sell them. The arrested criminal used to change the IMEI code of stolen or looted mobile phones. After this, anyone could use it freely anywhere.

Muzaffarpur police has exposed the illegal business of changing the IMEI number of stolen and snatched mobile phones and selling them in the market at a shop called Mobile Clinic near Saraiyaganj Tower in Nagar police station area. The arrested criminal is a resident of Madhopur village of Chiraiya police station in East Champaran district. His name is Chiranjeevi.

Chiranjeevi has been arrested by the police of Cyber ​​police station. The accused runs a shop named Mobile Clinic in Motijheel of the city. Several mobiles, a laptop and a computer have also been recovered from him. During interrogation, he told the police that he has changed the IMEI of 80 mobiles so far. He used to do this work with the help of a software from Ukraine.

In this case, City SP Awadhesh Dixit said that under Operation Muskaan, the police administration recovers people’s lost or stolen or snatched mobile phones. During this operation, the police found out that there are some mobiles whose IMEI number is the same, but are being used with different numbers.

When information was gathered in this case and raids were conducted, 6 such mobiles were recovered from the mobile clinic whose IMEI numbers had been changed. During interrogation, the arrested mobile shopkeeper admitted that till now he has changed the IMEI numbers of 80 to 90 different models of mobiles.

City SP said that this is a legal crime under the section of IPC. Because after doing this it becomes difficult to get any information regarding the stolen or snatched mobile. According to the information received from the shopkeeper, this software named Pandoraaz is originally from Ukraine. The shopkeeper bought it from Ranchi and with its help he used to charge ₹500 to ₹3000 to break the lock according to the model of the mobile.

The IMEI number of the mobiles was changed. This enabled the buyers to use the mobiles easily. The Superintendent of Police said that during the raid, 6 mobiles along with pen drives, software loaded laptops, computer sets and dongles were recovered from the shop. The police is investigating this matter for further action.
