The issue of VVIP treatment given to Kannada actor Darshan Thugudeepa, who is in jail in the Renuka Swamy murder case in Bengaluru, is gaining momentum. A large number of people, including the deceased’s father, are demanding his shifting from jail and legal action. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said that we are helpless. The government cannot decide to shift him from jail. This decision will be taken by the jail authorities in consultation with the court and other officials.
He said, “The government does not decide this. There are certain criteria, because Darshan and co-accused are under trial. Based on this, the officials will decide.” Nine jail officials, including the chief superintendent of Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, have been suspended after a preliminary inquiry into the special treatment given to actor Darshan. Three FIRs have been registered against Darshan under sections of the Prison Act and the Indian Penal Code (BNS).
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand has also sought to transfer the rowdy elements including Darshan and other accused from Parappana Agrahara Central Jail to other jails. The police’s proposal came after a picture of Darshan on the jail lawn surfaced on social media on Sunday, in which he is seen roaming with three others, including a rowdy. He is smoking a cigarette and drinking coffee while sitting on a chair. A notorious gangster is also seen with him.
The Police Commissioner said that on Saturday, when a team of the Central Crime Branch went to inspect all the barracks of the jail, information was received that some miscreants were involved in illegal activities. After investigation, no objectionable material or evidence was found, but it was found that some things had been shifted from there before the team reached there. There is a possibility that they (miscreants) may be involved in illegal activities. Therefore, it is necessary to shift them from the jail.
G Parmeshwar also said that some flaws were found in the jail. The prisoners were allowed to go from one barrack to another and this was captured in CCTV. Therefore, action was taken against the jail officials. Further investigation is going on. An IPS officer has been appointed for this, under whose supervision all the investigations are being conducted. He said that he has come to know about a report submitted earlier for reforms in the jails.
Let us tell you that those who have been suspended after this lapse in the jail came to light include jailers Sharan Basappa Amingad and Prabhu S Khandelwal, assistant jailers L S Kuppeswamy and Srikant Talwar, head warders Venkappa, Sampath Kumar and warder K Basappa. A video of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa also went viral, in which he is seen talking on a call. The clip starts with a man wearing a yellow T-shirt.
Who sees the other person smiling warmly on the video call. As the call progresses, the other person removes the camera from his face and walks away. He hands over the mobile to someone standing nearby. After some time, actor Darshan’s face appears on the mobile screen. Darshan happily greets the man by waving his hand. After this, a conversation takes place between the two. A gangster Wilson Garden Naga was also seen with them.
