‘The King’s Speech’ producer Ian Canning among the names added to the BAFTA Film Committee

BAFTA Seven new members have been added to its film, games and television committees.

New members are Alison Barnett, Ian Canning, Charu Desaud, Alix Jones, Caroline Levy, Ray Panthaki and Barnaby Thompson.

Seven newly elected Sector Committee members joined several re-elected members today. Those members are Emma Butt, Des Gale (Deputy Chair of the Games Committee), Jason Solomons, Tara Saunders (Games Committee Chair), and Ade Rockliff (also Learning, Inclusion and Talent Committee Chair).

Representatives are elected for two years, voted by the members. Elections are held annually, with half of the committee retiring on rotation each year. Eligibility, promotion rules and voting criteria for the Film, Games, Television and Television Craft Awards are individually reviewed and set annually by sector committees.

“We are uniquely fortunate to have a community of over 12,000 creative practitioners,” BAFTA Chair Sarah Putt said this morning. “A community that ranges from casting directors to editors, games developers to commissioners, agents to CEOs and represents a wide range of talent across the screen industries. We are delighted to welcome returning committee members and a range of new expert voices, including BAFTA winners and alumni of our talent programmes.”

Film Committee (Ten Elected Posts):

  • Ian Canning (newly elected)
  • Barnaby Thompson (newly elected)
  • Ray Panthaki (Newly elected)
  • Jason Solomons (re-elected)

He joins Chair Anna Higgs and Deputy Chair Emily Stillman, as well as Anthony Andrews, Julie La’Bessiere, David Proud and Nainita Desai.

Sports Committee (Seven Elected Posts):

  • Charu Desod (Newly elected)
  • Alix Jones (newly elected)
  • Tara Saunders, Chair (re-elected)
  • Des Gale, Vice-Chairman (re-elected)

He joins Catherine Bidwell, James Brooksby and Dale Walker.

TV Committee (Ten Elected Posts):

  • Also (re-elected) Ade Rawcliffe, Chair of the Learning, Inclusion and Talent Committee
  • Emma Butt (re-elected)
  • Caroline Levy (newly elected)
  • Alison Barnett (newly elected)

He joins Chair Hilary Rosen and Deputy Chair Christine Healy, as well as Adil Amini, Furqun Akhtar, Rajeev Nathwani and Sue Virtue.
