The displaced residents suspect that thieves are taking advantage of this disaster and stealing their valuables.
People complained to the police
The affected people have complained to the police officials to increase patrolling in the area and catch and punish the thieves. One of the victims told the media, ‘We are the ones who have lost everything in this tragedy. We had left our house to ensure our safety during the tragedy. But when we returned to check the condition of our house after that, we found that the doors were broken.’ He complained that the thieves also targeted his room in the resort where he is currently staying and stole his clothes.

Police increased patrolling in the area
Officials said in a statement on Saturday evening that police patrolling has been started in the disaster-affected areas including Choorlamala and Mundakkai. Officials said that action will be taken against those who enter the affected areas or the houses of the victims at night without permission. Police said that no one is allowed to enter the affected areas or houses at night without police permission in the name of rescue operation.
215 people died
After the terrible landslide in Wayanad, rescue operations are going on in the affected areas. The death toll in this accident has exceeded 350, while 206 people are still reported missing. On the other hand, IMD has predicted rain in Wayanad till August 6. In such a situation, the rescue operation may be affected.
