The havoc of Chandipura virus is not stopping in Gujarat… 44 people have died so far

The number of Chandipura virus infected patients is increasing continuously in Gujarat since the last three weeks. According to the data released by the administration, 44 patients have died due to Chandipura virus in Gujarat so far.

So far, 124 cases of Chandipura virus have been registered in Gujarat. At present, 54 patients infected with Chandipura virus are admitted in the hospital and 26 patients have been discharged. Initially, the number of infected patients was seen in rural areas. After which now patients are also being found in metros like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat.

Out of the 124 cases of Chandipura virus reported so far, 12 are from Sabarkantha, 6 from Aravalli, 2 from Mahisagar, 6 from Kheda, 7 from Mehsana, 5 from Rajkot, 4 from Surendranagar, 12 from Ahmedabad Corporation, 6 from Gandhinagar, 15 from Panchmahal, 6 from Jamnagar, 5 from Morbi, 3 from Gandhinagar Corporation, 2 from Chhota Udaipur, 2 from Dahod, 6 from Vadodara, 2 from Narmada, 5 from Banaskantha, 2 from Vadodara Corporation, 1 from Bhavnagar, 1 from Devbhoomi Dwarka, 4 from Rajkot Corporation, 3 from Kutch, 2 from Surat Corporation, 3 from Bharuch, 1 from Ahmedabad and 1 from Jamnagar Corporation.

So far, reports of 34 patients of Chandipura virus have been found positive. Among them, 6 from Sabarkantha, 3 from Aravalli, 1 from Mahisagar, 3 from Kheda, 4 from Mehsana, 1 from Rajkot, 1 from Surendranagar, 3 from Ahmedabad Corporation, 1 from Gandhinagar, 6 from Panchmahal, 1 from Jamnagar, 1 from Morbi, 1 from Dahod, 1 from Vadodara, 1 from Banaskantha, 1 from Devbhoomi Dwarka, 1 from Rajkot Corporation and 1 from Kutch have been found positive.

Among the 44 Chandipura virus patients who have died, 2 are from Sabarkantha, 3 from Aravalli, 2 from Mahisagar, 2 from Kheda, 2 from Mehsana, 3 from Rajkot, 1 from Surendranagar, 4 from Ahmedabad Corporation, 2 from Gandhinagar, 5 from Panchmahal, 2 from Jamnagar, 3 from Morbi, 2 from Gandhinagar Corporation, 2 from Dahod, 1 from Vadodara, 1 from Narmada, 3 from Banaskantha, 1 from Vadodara Corporation, 1 from Devbhoomi Dwarka, 1 from Surat Corporation and 1 patient has died in Jamnagar.

Apart from Gujarat, some cases of Chandipura virus have been reported in Rajasthan as well. So far, 6 cases have been reported in Rajasthan. One has died, while the treatment of five is ongoing. At the same time, 2 patients have been found in Madhya Pradesh and 1 in Maharashtra.

What is Chandipura virus?

The first case related to this was reported in Maharashtra in the year 1966. This virus was identified in Chandipur, Nagpur, hence it was named Chandipura virus. After this, this virus was reported in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat in the years 2004 to 2006 and 2019. Let us tell you that Chandipura virus is an RNA virus, which spreads most through female phlebotomine fly. Aedes found in mosquitoes are responsible for its spread.

What are the symptoms of Chandipura virus?

Due to Chandipura virus, the patient complains of fever. It has symptoms similar to flu and causes severe encephalitis. Encephalitis is a disease that causes swelling in the brain.
