‘The grandfather working in the school took off my clothes and…’, the story of the girls who were victims of sexual abuse in Badlapur

Details of the FIR registered in the case of sexual abuse of two girls in a school in Badlapur, Thane, Maharashtra have come to light. According to the FIR registered on the basis of the complaint filed by the family members of the victim girls, this incident took place on 13th August between 9 am to 12 noon. After this incident, the girls refused to go to school on 16th August. According to their family members, they were very scared.

When they were questioned, the family was shocked to hear the story they told. The family of the victim girls had informed the police about this matter on 16th August itself. But the police registered the case 12 hours later at around 9 o’clock. First a parent had filed a complaint in this matter. After that when other parents got their daughters medically tested, they were stunned.

Many victim girls had lost their virginity. One victim girl told her family that a dada (brother is called dada in Marathi) from school took off her clothes and touched her private part. The accused also raped the girl. After registering a case in this matter, the police arrested the accused under the relevant sections of the POCSO Act.

However, people started violent protests over the negligence of the school administration and the police in this case, which turned violent on Tuesday. After this, the government took action and transferred the area’s female inspector Shubhada Shitole. Not only this, the school principal, class teacher and a female employee were suspended. An SIT was formed to investigate this matter.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis wrote on Twitter, “Orders have been issued to immediately suspend the senior police inspector, assistant sub-inspector and head constable attached to Badlapur police station for negligence in duty.” He said the state government has appointed Inspector General-rank Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Arti Singh to conduct the probe.

Earlier, Devendra Fadnavis had directed the Thane Police Commissioner to prepare a proposal to hear the case in a fast-track court. Opposition parties have alleged that the parents of the victim girls had to wait for 11 hours at the Badalpur police station before filing a complaint. Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar has accused the police of negligence.
