The flag is hoisted differently on 15 August and 26 January, is this the difference?

On 15th August, i.e. on the occasion of Independence Day, the Prime Minister of the country hoists the flag at the Red Fort. When the parade is held on 26th January, the President of the country hoists the flag at the duty path. But, do you know that there is a difference in the way the flag is hoisted on 15th August and 26th January and the flag is hoisted differently on both days. You must be wondering what can be different in hoisting the flag? So let us understand what is the story behind hoisting the flag differently on both days.

First of all, let us tell you that the flags that are hoisted on 15 August (Independence Day) and 26 January (Republic Day) have different names. For example, when the Prime Minister hoists the flag on 15 August, it is called Dhwajharaohan, which is called Flag Hoisting in English. Whereas, when the flag is hoisted on Republic Day, it is called Jhanda Phharna, which is called Flag Unfurling in English. This means that flag hoisting takes place on 15 August and flag hoisting takes place on 26 January.

Now let us know the difference between flag hoisting and flag unfurling. Actually, on 15th August when the Prime Minister hoists the flag, at that time the flag is below the pole and when the PM pulls the rope, it goes up and is hoisted. That is, in case of flag hoisting, the flag goes from the bottom part of the pole to the top. This happens at the Red Fort. This signifies nation building, patriotism and independence.

Now let’s talk about hoisting the flag. When the flag is hoisted on 26 January, the flag is already tied to the top of the pole and it is hoisted by the President. In this situation, the flag does not travel from bottom to top and the flag is already up and then it is hoisted. This shows our commitment to the principles of our Constitution. Now you must have understood what is the difference between the two.

There are other rules for hoisting the flag

There are other rules for hoisting the flag, according to which the flag has to be hoisted. Earlier the tricolor flag could be hoisted only between sunrise and sunset, but now these rules have been changed. Now the tricolor is also allowed to be hoisted at night. Along with this, earlier it was said to hoist a cotton flag, but now a flag made of polyester can also be hoisted. The most important thing while hoisting the flag is that the flag should never touch the ground, it should not even be kept on the ground.

Apart from this, the flag should not be hoisted at half mast without government orders. The tricolour should not be immersed in water and nothing should be written on it. The tricolour should be hoisted at a place where it is visible to everyone. If any other flag is to be hoisted along with the tricolour, it should not be hoisted at par with the national flag. If the flags of two countries are hoisted on the car, the Indian flag should be on the right side.
