Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and JMM leader Champai Soren is going to join the Bharatiya Janata Party after some time. BJP was not able to make inroads in the 2019 elections in the caste and region Champai Soren comes from. In such a situation, Champai Soren’s joining BJP can strengthen BJP’s reach on about 14 seats.
Champai Soren will join BJP in Ranchi. Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Himanta Biswa Sarma will also be present in this program. Before joining BJP, Champai Soren had a special conversation with ‘Aaj Tak’ and said that today the existence of tribals is in danger in the state. He alleged that there is no such platform in JMM where any party leader or worker can share his pain/sorrow.
Targeting Hemant Soren, Champai Soren said, ‘National convention has not been called for 5 years. JMM supremo (Shibu Soren) is unwell. He cannot speak. No one can share his concern.’ He said that he is not afraid of any challenge and he is seeing huge support for himself. Champai Soren said that I have added every brick to strengthen JMM along with Shibu Soren but now JMM does not care about the tribals.

He said, ‘I do not think about the benefits or losses. The question itself is irrelevant as to how the BJP will benefit from this and what setback will JMM suffer by joining the BJP.’
I was insulted in JMM- Champai Soren
He said, ‘I was insulted a lot in JMM. The way things happened with me was hurtful. Not even once in five years was a party convention called. No one knows who is what and in what role. I am the most senior leader here after Guruji (Shibu Soren). I have learned a lot in the organization and struggle. Earlier I thought that I would take sanyaas, but because of the way the public and workers thought about me, I had to do this (join BJP).’
He further said, ‘We decided that now we will do active politics. Either we will form a party or join a party but we were contacted between 8th August and 18th August. Earlier no one talked to us. After that we thought that looking at the current situation of Jharkhand, there is no better party than BJP in which we can put forward our point. The existence of the tribals here is in danger. This crisis has increased due to Bangladeshi infiltration. That is why we expressed faith in the country’s PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah. That is why I am going to join BJP.’
‘Whatever responsibility I get, I will fulfill it’
On joining BJP, Champai said, ‘Today when we will take membership of the party, you will see how many people are coming there. We have decided to join BJP with the thought of developing Santhal Pargana and Jharkhand. Therefore, we will fulfill whatever responsibility is given to us. A person who works should not be afraid of challenges. Whatever work the party we are joining gives us, we will do it with full responsibility. We will always try to save the existence of tribals.’

On the question of Champai Soren joining BJP, CM Hemant Soren said, ‘Elections are coming closer so all this will happen… gradually he will be in discussion… when the time comes, we will discuss it.’
