Overall, coaching centres in Delhi which prepare students for exams charge them a hefty amount but do not provide them facilities and security.

Indian students lost their lives in these countries

Whether in the country or abroad, the lives of Indian students are in danger everywhere. If we talk about foreign countries, in the past years, 633 students have lost their lives due to various reasons in different countries. The highest number of deaths of Indian students, 172, have occurred in Canada. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh told the Lok Sabha last Friday that in the last five years, Indian students have been attacked abroad. In these attacks, 19 students died in Canada and six students in America. Out of these 633 deaths, 108 students died in America, 58 in Britain, 57 in Australia and 37 in Russia. While 18 students died in Ukraine, 24 in Germany, 1212 in Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Cyprus and eight students died in China.

Coaching centers are not following the guidelines

There are many educational coaching centres in Delhi that are violating safety norms. In May, the Delhi High Court had ordered the Delhi Municipal Corporation and the Delhi Development Authority to immediately shut down any coaching centre found operating in violation of prescribed fire safety norms.

What does NCRB data say

The number of students committing suicide in India has increased by 70 per cent between 2011 and 2021. Data provided by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) states that 13,089 students died by suicide in 2021 (the year of its latest report on suicide). This represents a 70 per cent increase from the 7,696 cases of student suicides reported in 2011. The number of student suicides in India has generally increased every year since 2011. Failure in exams was cited as the reason for suicide in 1,673 cases in 2021. Of these, 991 victims were men and 682 were women. The NCRB did not find any transgender among those who committed suicide for this reason in 2021.
