The SIT probing the rape and murder case of a lady doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College has been strengthened. A dynamic IPS officer has been included to increase the efficiency of this special investigation team formed by Kolkata Police. According to sources, DCP rank IPS Amit Verma is going to play an important role in the 8-member SIT.
Kolkata Police has deployed 15 policemen in one shift to assist the SIT. A senior police officer claims that the SIT is working 24×7. The investigation is going on in three shifts a day. Along with this, the head and assistant superintendent of the Chest Medicine Department of RG Kar Medical College have been called for questioning by the detective department of Kolkata Police.
The medical college administration first called it a suicide
Sources say that the Assistant Superintendent of Chest Medicine Department first called the victim’s family. He told them that the victim had committed suicide in the hospital. Now both of them have been asked to appear at the Kolkata Police Headquarters at 11 am on Tuesday. Before this, 7 junior doctors including interns, house staff, PGT of the medical college were called and questioned.
The police called these people for questioning
Police sources claim that all these people were on duty that night when the victim was raped and murdered in the seminar hall. Four of these people also had dinner with the victim. Kolkata Police will soon call some more doctors from the medical college. Earlier, Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal visited the medical college for the second time on Sunday. He held a meeting with the junior doctors there.
Police commissioner assured of transparent investigation
The Police Commissioner has assured that a transparent investigation is being conducted. He said, “After committing the crime, the accused Sanjay Roy went back to his house, where he slept till late on Friday morning. After waking up, he washed the clothes he was wearing during the crime to erase the evidence. During the search, his shoes were found, which had blood stains on them. There is no evidence of anyone else’s involvement in this incident except him.
Recreated the crime scene at the scene of crime
A police officer said that people who were on duty from Thursday night to Friday morning are also being spoken to. CCTV footage has also been examined. The forensic unit along with the SIT has collected samples from the seminar hall. The crime scene has also been recreated at the spot. The post-mortem report has been handed over to the parents of the deceased doctor. The police say that they are not trying to hide anyone.
Junior doctors on strike, demanding security
On the other hand, the agitating junior doctors said that they will continue their protest till they are fully satisfied and their demands related to security are addressed. After the meeting with the Police Commissioner, a junior doctor said that work will remain closed in all emergency and non-emergency services. Junior doctors, house staff and PGTs are also demanding security in government hospitals.
Principal of medical college resigned
RG Kar Medical College Principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh has resigned. He said that he was being defamed on social media. The victim doctor was like his daughter. He is resigning as a guardian. This should never happen to anyone in the future. Kolkata Police has also removed an ACP Muralidhar Sharma, who was responsible for the security of the medical college. He was earlier part of the investigation team.

Superintendent of Chest Medicine Department removed
After this horrific incident, Dr. Sanjay Vashishth, Superintendent of Chest Medicine Department of RG Kar Medical College was also removed from his post. He was in charge there for a long time. In his place, Dean of the hospital Bulbul Mukhopadhyay has been given the responsibility. There was a demand to remove the Superintendent ever since the body of the lady doctor was found on Friday. But after 48 hours, the Health Department issued an order to remove him.
Watched porn while drinking alcohol, then raped and murdered the doctor
Many big revelations have been made during the investigation of this case. Police sources say that the accused criminal Sanjay Roy was addicted to watching porn movies while drinking alcohol. He came and went inside the hospital several times on the night of the incident. The crime is being confirmed on the basis of interrogation of the accused, circumstantial evidence and CCTV footage. He went behind the hospital to drink alcohol at 11 pm on Friday night. He watched porn movies while drinking alcohol there.
The accused criminal tampered with the evidence after the incident
After this, at 4 am, he was seen entering the Chest Medicine Department from the back door. After this, he was seen coming out of the seminar hall at around 4.45 am. After committing the crime, the accused tried to tamper with the evidence. Police have found evidence which shows that the accused tried to wash away the blood stains from the crime scene. After going back home, he also washed his clothes.
