The body of a female junior doctor was found on 9 August in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Initially it was said that the lady doctor had committed suicide, but later it was revealed that the doctor was raped and then murdered. Civic volunteer Sanjay Roy has been arrested in this case. After this incident, resident doctors across the country went on strike. However, accepting their demand, the principal and superintendent were removed and the investigation of the case was handed over to the CBI. Regarding this incident, our associate ‘The Lallantop’ spoke to the trainee doctor’s neighbor. What he told you will send chills down your spine.
He told that when we came to the hospital with the parents and colleague of the deceased trainee doctor, we were made to stand there for three hours. The parents kept pleading with folded hands to show them their daughter once, but the hospital administration did not listen to us. Later, when the doctor’s father brought the photo of the deceased daughter, he saw that there was blood in her mouth. Her glasses were broken. There was no clothing on the body. Both the legs were joined at a right angle, which is possible only after the pelvic girdle is broken.
He told, “Around 10:30 pm, my neighbour (mother of the deceased) hugged me, screaming and crying and said that everything is over. I asked what happened? She said that the news has come from the hospital that my daughter has committed suicide. I asked suicide… when, how. She said that this is what they said. The four of us, me, the girl’s parents and one more friend of ours, reached the hospital. They made us stand there for three hours.”
He further said, “A couple, whose 31-year-old daughter died like this, were made to stand for three hours. The parents kept begging with folded hands, show us once… show us our daughter’s face once. We were not shown it. After three hours, the parents were taken to the seminar hall. The father took a photo on his mobile phone and showed it to me. There was blood in her mouth. Her glasses had been broken, which led to blood oozing out of her eyes. There was no clothing on the body. Both the legs were found at a right angle. One leg was on one side of the bed and the other was on the other side of the bed. Unless the pelvic girdle breaks, the legs cannot be like this. She was killed by strangulation.”
The neighbor of the deceased lady doctor said, “I request the Prime Minister and the President, if my message reaches them then there should be justice for the victim’s family in this case. Whatever I said is true. All these things have been mentioned in the post-mortem report. She was a promising girl. She cracked the exam with her talent and was studying medicine. She was going to become a good doctor. Such an incident with that 31-year-old girl is very sad.”
