The battle for Haryana’s Rania seat… where the Chautala family’s grandfather and grandson will clash…

There are assembly elections in Haryana and the political contest on Rania seat of Sirsa district is going to be very interesting. This time, grandfather and grandson of Chautala family will fight each other on Rania seat. Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has declared Arjun Chautala, son of senior party leader Abhay Chautala, as its candidate from Rania seat. On Monday, INLD has released the second list of seven candidates. Arjun is going to contest assembly elections for the first time.

Earlier, Arjun’s grandfather and Chaudhary Devi Lal’s third son Ranjit Singh Chautala has also announced that he will contest from Rania seat. Even if he has to contest as an independent. In such a situation, it has become clear that in the assembly elections too, we are going to see an electoral contest between the Chautala family.

Arjun is the grandson of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala. While Om Prakash is the elder son of Chaudhary Devi Lal. Arjun’s first political fight is considered to be very tough, because he will have experienced and grandfather Ranjit Singh Chautala with him. Ranjit joined BJP just before the Lok Sabha elections 2024 and is the Energy and Jail Minister in the Haryana government. Recently, in the Lok Sabha elections, a political fight was seen in the Chautala family on the Hisar seat. Ranjit contested from the Hisar Lok Sabha seat, but he lost the election to Congress candidate Jaiprakash. In this election, Naina Singh Chautala contested on the ticket of JJP and Sunaina Chautala on the ticket of INLD. This political fight was seen between sister-in-law, sister-in-law and father-in-law.

Naina Chautala has been an MLA twice. She is the wife of Om Prakash Chautala’s son Ajay Chautala. Ranjit is Ajay Chautala’s uncle. While Sunaina is the wife of Ravi Chautala, son of Om Prakash Chautala’s other brother Pratap Chautala.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Naina Chautala’s son Dushyant Chautala won the Hisar seat on an INLD ticket. However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Dushyant was defeated by Brijendra Singh of the BJP.

Ranjit had resigned from the membership of the Legislative Assembly after getting the ticket from BJP. However, he did not resign from the post of Electricity and Jail Minister in the state government. Therefore, as per the rules, he will remain a minister for the next six months from March 24, the date of resignation from the membership of the Legislative Assembly.

Ranjit Singh Chautala lost the election to Rania twice

Ranjit Singh Chautala won the Rania seat in the 2019 assembly elections. He was contesting as an independent. Earlier, Ranjit had to face defeat twice on a Congress ticket from the Rania seat. After the new delimitation in 2009, Ranjit contested from the Rania assembly seat, but lost to Krishna Kamboj. In 2014, he lost the election to Ramchandra Kamboj. In 2019, when the Congress did not give him a ticket, he rebelled and contested as an independent and won.

Sirsa is considered the stronghold of the Chautala family

Sirsa district is considered the stronghold of the Chautala family. In such a situation, the political confrontation between the members of the Devi Lal family here creates interest in Haryana politics. At the same time, Arjun Chautala contested the Lok Sabha elections for the first time from Kurukshetra seat in 2019. This was his entry into politics. However, he came fifth by getting 60,679 votes and his deposit was forfeited. Haryana’s current Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini won this seat by a huge margin.

There are a total of 90 seats in Haryana. So far the INLD-BSP alliance has announced 14 candidates. The party’s state president Rampal Majra from Kalayat and Sher Singh Barshami from Ladwa have been nominated. Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini is considered to be the possible candidate of BJP from Ladwa. While all other parties including Congress and BJP have not yet announced their candidates.
