At the same time, more than 150 people were killed and 128 injured in a landslide caused by torrential rains in Wayanad, Kerala on Tuesday. This is one of the worst natural disasters in Kerala. There are many important areas which have not been given justice in the budget

Criticising the Union Budget, Sonia Gandhi said that the burning demands of farmers and especially the youth were completely ignored. She said that there are many important sectors which have not been given justice in the budget allocation. Despite the Prime Minister, Finance Minister and others talking about the budget and its so-called achievements, there has been widespread disappointment among the people. The central government, especially its top leadership, remains in self-delusion while crores of families across the country are devastated by rising unemployment and price rise.

It is clear that the government has no intention of conducting the census

Sonia Gandhi said, ‘It is now clear that the government has no intention of conducting the census, which should have been done in 2021. This will not give us the number of the country’s population, especially the population of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. This also means that at least 12 crore of our citizens are deprived of the benefits of the National Food Security Act of 2013 – which has now been renamed as PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. We had hoped that the Modi government would learn the right lessons from the setback in the Lok Sabha elections. Instead, it is continuing with its policy of dividing communities, spreading an atmosphere of fear and hostility.’
