The actress was asked about her caste in the temple, her husband was asked to prove that she was a Hindu, she was allowed to go only after a tilak was applied on her forehead

South Indian film actress and BJP leader Namita has made a shocking allegation. On Monday, Meenakshi had gone to Sundareshwar temple for darshan. She alleged that she was asked to show proof of being a Hindu to get darshan in the temple.

Namita posted a video on her Instagram and informed about this. She alleged that a temple official stopped her from entering the temple and started asking her for proof of being a Hindu. Namita, who has worked in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada films, is also a member of the BJP’s state executive in Tamil Nadu.

Namita shared the video
Sharing a note along with the video, Namita wrote, ‘This is the first time that I have felt so isolated in my own country and in my own place that I have to prove that I am a Hindu! The issue is not that I was asked to do this (provide proof of being a Hindu), but the issue is how I was asked to do this. A very rude and stubborn officer and his assistant did this.’

Namita said that it is a ‘known fact’ that she was born a Hindu and got married in Tirupati. Her son is named after Lord Krishna. According to a PTI report, Namita said, ‘The matter is that he spoke very rudely and arrogantly and asked me for a certificate to prove my caste and religion.’

Temple officials gave this clarification
However, according to the report, a senior official said that Namita and her husband were asked whether they were Hindus or not since they were wearing masks and were told about the temple traditions.

According to PTI, the officer said that after getting her clarification, a tilak was applied on her forehead and she was taken inside the temple. When Namita was asked about this, she said that she was allowed to go only after she clarified about her religion and applied a tilak on her forehead.

Namita said, ‘There is a way to ask. I was made to wait in a corner for 20 minutes. We had informed the police about our visit on Sunday itself.’ She further said that she was wearing a mask so that people present in the temple do not recognize her and this does not create any ‘disturbance.’

Namitha said that her visit to Madurai was ‘spiritual’ and she had gone to celebrate the festival of Janmashtami at ISKCON. In the Instagram video, Namitha also demanded action from PK Shekhar Babu, Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Systems in the Tamil Nadu government, against the temple official who misbehaved with her.
