Tension in Bijnor! Sent obscene message to a Hindu girl, threatened to ‘create Bangladesh’ on protest, Mujammil arrested

A youth has been arrested in Bijnor, UP for sending obscene messages to a 22-year-old girl and threatening her family members. The girl, a resident of Chandpur, had told the police in her complaint on August 20 that the accused Muzammil, who is her neighbour, was sending her obscene messages on social media. When the girl’s family members protested and raised the issue with Muzammil on August 19, he attacked them along with a mob.

It is alleged that during this time the attackers threatened to create a “Bangladesh-like situation”. The incident turned into a communal issue when about 20 families from the same locality protested against the harassment and wrote ‘Makaan Bikaau Hai’ (House for sale) on their houses.

However, later after the intervention of the police, these families erased the words ‘Makaan Bikaau’ written on the walls of their houses. After an FIR was registered in the case, Muzammil was arrested on Thursday night.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Bijnor said that further investigation is underway. Police station in-charge Rajesh Bainsala has been removed due to negligence in duty. Heavy police force has been deployed in the area. At present, peace and order is maintained.

How did the uproar happen?

This incident started when the victim girl alleged that a young man from another community was constantly chatting obscenely with her on Instagram. The girl said that the young man had been mentally harassing her for several days. Fed up, the girl told her family about this, after which the matter became more serious.

The victim girl’s family raised their voice against this harassment, due to which the youth gathered a mob of 300 to 400 people on the evening of 19 August 2024 at around 7 pm. According to the girl’s allegation, this mob raised communal slogans and threatened that “we will make Bangladesh here.” This incident created an atmosphere of fear and panic in the area. In this attack, the victim girl’s family brothers, Neeraj, Priyanshu, Shekhar, Aditya and members of other families were injured. After the attack, many families in the area wrote “This house is for sale” on the walls of their houses.

On receiving the information about the incident, the police took immediate action. The police registered a case and deployed a heavy police force to maintain peace in the area. The SP Rural said that legal action is being taken on the complaint of the victim girl. After talking to the affected families, the message written “This house is for sale” has also been removed from their houses.

It is being told that the girl’s brother had sent an objectionable voice message on the mobile of the accused youth. After this message went viral, both the parties came face to face. The police have registered a case in this matter as well.
