Black magic, A temple was allegedly vandalised in a village on the outskirts of Jammu following which locals staged a protest, police said on Sunday. Police said the person responsible for the vandalism and arson at the temple claimed he carried out the incident on Saturday night because he was upset over black magic being practised at the temple by some members of the community.
The accused was arrested before the dispute escalated
Jammu (rural) superintendent of police (SP) Brijesh Sharma told reporters that the case was resolved within hours of the incident after local resident Arjun Sharma confessed his involvement before a magistrate. The SP said the timely arrest of the accused averted a possible dispute over the issue.
Some idols in the temple were desecrated
Superintendent of Police Sharma said that after receiving the complaint, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections at the Nagrota police station. According to the complaint, some idols were desecrated by unknown people at the temple located in Narayan Kho area late Saturday night. The officer said that a team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and Crime Branch reached the spot with sniffer dogs and detained four suspects on the basis of investigation and CCTV footage of the area.
The accused claimed that he was troubled by black magic
The SP said that Arjun Sharma has confessed his involvement in the incident. He said that Arjun carried out the incident alone. The SP said that the accused has claimed that he was disturbed by the black magic being practiced by some members there. The SP said that the investigation of the case is still in the initial stage and further information will be revealed after the investigation is completed.
The SP appealed to the people not to jump to any conclusions on such sensitive matters on social media without knowing the police’s side. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former MLA of Nagrota constituency Devendra Singh Rana praised the police and civil administration for taking the incident seriously and taking prompt action.
