Taliban’s wrath fell on Afghan women, they were banned from even speaking in public places

The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has ordered strict enforcement of a new morality law. Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada has asked Afghan authorities to implement it, which significantly restricts women’s rights.

Taliban officials announced this law last month, which has 35 articles. In this, women have been asked to cover their face and body and keep their voice low while going out of the house. After taking power in Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban informally issued an order for women to cover their face and body.

Advice to leave the house only when necessary

Now global human rights organizations have criticized the Taliban regime for making morality laws. Supreme Leader Akhundzada has instructed civilian and military officials to implement “laws promoting morality in society”.

Under the new law, women will be prohibited from raising their voices in public and it will be mandatory for them to cover their entire body and face. Also, Article 35 states that women should only go out of the house if it is absolutely necessary.

Men’s attire was also regularized

The morality law also regulates the behaviour and dress of men, prohibiting them from wearing shorts above the knee and trimming their beards.

It is compulsory for men to pray

Apart from these, reading namaaz has been made compulsory in the law. Keeping pictures of living beings, homosexuality, animal fighting, playing music in public places and celebrating holidays on the lines of non-Muslims are also prohibited. Violators of the law can be verbally warned and can also be fined and arrested.
