According to the information received, a six-storey building collapsed in Sachin area of Surat. Many people are feared to be trapped in it. Police and fire department teams are on the spot. Rescue operation is underway. Surat Collector Dr. Saurabh Pardhi said – “A six-storey building collapsed and 4-5 people are feared to be trapped inside. A woman has been rescued and admitted to the hospital. The fire brigade team, NDRF and police are at work. We are trying to rescue the rest of the people as soon as possible.”
How did the building collapse
The building had 30 apartments, five of which were occupied. It is not yet known how the building collapsed, whether it was due to rain or some other reason.

Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot, who reached the spot to monitor the rescue operation, confirmed that voices of trapped people were heard at the beginning of the rescue operation. He said that the building was constructed in 2016-17. He said that prima facie there were about five flats in the building, most of which were occupied by people working in factories located in this area. Gehlot said, “When the rescue operation began, we heard voices of people trapped inside. We pulled out a woman alive from the debris and sent her to the hospital. We suspect that about five people are still trapped inside.”
