ED arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan on Monday. ED raided his house in the morning after which he was arrested. This arrest has been made in the alleged Waqf scam of Delhi. Amanatullah Khan is an MLA from Okhla seat of Delhi. He is accused of misusing his position as the chairman of Delhi Waqf Board and appointing his close ones.
On which grounds was the arrest made?
Aaj Tak’s sources told on what grounds ED has arrested Amanatullah Khan. ED said that several summons were sent to Amanatullah but he did not appear. The agency said that Amanatullah is not cooperating in any way. He is deliberately not cooperating with the aim of thwarting the investigation.
The ED said that the white diary seized has revealed huge cash transactions worth crores of rupees between him and his close associates. Incriminating evidence has also been found from his mobile phone. The WhatsApp content was deleted from his mobile phone on the same day of the search in October 2023.
What did Amanatullah say in the court?
On Monday, the ED presented Amanatullah Khan in the Rouse Avenue Court. In the court, Amanatullah said, ‘I have been arrested, what else can I say. These are old allegations, I have already got bail.’ The ED lawyer said, ‘We have arrested him at 11:20 am today. The court knows the background of this case. A prosecution complaint has already been filed. Four accused have already been arrested. They are still in custody. Their regular bail has been rejected.’
The ED said that Amanatullah had filed anticipatory bail petitions in this court, the High Court and then in the Supreme Court and all were rejected. He has been arrested under Section 19 PMLA. He was issued 14 summons but he appeared only once, that too after the Supreme Court’s instructions.
