In Amritsar, Punjab, two attackers entered the house of an NRI and shot him, after which the NRI was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. In connection with this incident, the police have arrested five people today on Sunday, including the father of the NRI’s first wife.
According to the agency, police said that the victim Sukhchain Singh had recently returned from America. He was at home in Daburji village in Amritsar when two attackers barged into his house, put a gun to his temple and first argued with him over something and then shot him.

During this time, the children and women present in Sukhchain Singh’s house tried to stop the attackers with folded hands, but they did not listen. Police officials say that efforts are being made to catch the two accused who fired at Sukhchain Singh. They are absconding right now.
The attackers stopped Sukhchain Singh when he was out for a morning walk in Dabuji village on the outskirts of the city on Saturday. The attackers entered the house and fired three bullets. Two bullets hit NRI Sukhchain Singh. One in the head and the other near the chest. According to the police, Sukhchain Singh’s condition is now said to be out of danger.
Sukhchain Singh was shot in front of his wife, mother and two children from his first marriage. Footage obtained from CCTV cameras installed inside the victim’s house shows his wife, mother and children pleading with the attackers to let him go.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon said that Sukhchain Singh was attacked at the behest of his first wife’s family. He said that Sukhchain Singh’s first wife had committed suicide in December 2022, since then the family members were holding a grudge. Police said that two accused Sukhwinder alias Sukha and Gurkirat Singh alias Gurri were hired to kill Sukhchain Singh. Dhillon said that the attackers are being searched.
Those arrested include Sarwan Singh, father of Sukhchain Singh’s first wife and a resident of Bains village in Hoshiarpur, Jagjit Singh and Chamkaur Singh from Tarn Taran, who had helped the attackers before the incident. Hotel owner Digambar Atri and hotel manager Abhilash Bhaskar had provided accommodation to the attackers without asking for ID proof.
According to the police, the attackers stayed at Atri’s hotel before and after the incident. Dhillon said that the police have also registered a case against Sukhwinder Singh, Kuljinder Kaur and her husband Jasvir Singh, who live in America. Sukhwinder Singh and Kuljinder Kaur are the brother and sister of Sukhchain Singh’s first wife. Special Director General of Police R N Dhoke (Internal Security) met Sukhchain Singh’s family on Saturday.
