After the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyya in Iran’s capital Tehran, there is a possibility of escalation of conflict in West Asia. Both Hamas and Iran have blamed Israel for the death of Haniyya in a targeted attack. However, Israel has neither taken responsibility for the attack nor denied it. Meanwhile, it is reported that US President Joe Biden has expressed displeasure over the case of Haniyya in his conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Channel 12 News, without citing any official source, said in its report, ‘In the telephonic conversation, Biden angrily told Netanyahu – stop talking nonsense to me’. Joe Biden’s comment came when Benjamin Netanyahu informed him that Israel is moving forward with talks on a ceasefire agreement with Hamas in exchange for hostages and will soon send a delegation. According to the Channel 12 News report, Biden ended his conversation with Netanyahu by saying that he should not ‘take the President lightly.’

According to the report, Biden’s remarks were made in the context of Israel-US cooperation amid fears of war with Iran and the organizations it supports (Hezbollah and Houthis). The conflict already going on in West Asia is expected to escalate further, as Iran and Tehran-backed groups have vowed to avenge the recent killings of several of their leaders. President Biden united regional powers to help thwart Iran’s unprecedented missile and drone attack on Israel during the night of April 13-14.

According to a report in The Times of Israel, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office issued an official statement after Biden’s phone conversation with Netanyahu on Saturday. It said, ‘The Prime Minister does not interfere in American politics and will work with whoever is elected president. He also expects Americans not to interfere in Israel’s affairs.’ A senior Israeli official told The Telegraph that after President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the US presidential election race, Benjamin Netanyahu is feeling encouraged to take tough action against Iran.

The official said that US President Joe Biden was trying to influence Benjamin Netanyahu’s decisions while he remains in the race for the upcoming election. The Telegraph quoted the official in its report as saying, ‘Biden had told Netanyahu not to react too harshly to Iran’s attacks. And Iran knew this, that is why it took advantage of the situation to attack Israel. But after being out of the presidential election race, Joe Biden will now do what he thinks is right.’

The Telegraph quoted an Israeli official in its report, saying, ‘America’s real agenda is to fully support Israel and it has done so for decades. Netanyahu knows this, that is why he is becoming more daring. He is confident that he can attack Israel’s enemies and he still has the full support of America. Joe Biden’s decision not to contest re-election will be a big game changer in the Middle East. Because Iran was planning to take advantage of his election campaign.’
