India vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI Match Highlights: The Sri Lankan cricket team has created history at home. After 27 years, the Indian team has lost a bilateral ODI series on Sri Lankan soil. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the Indian team had to face a 0-2 defeat in the 3-match ODI series on the Sri Lanka tour. In this entire series, the new coach Gautam Gambhir looked helpless in the dugout and Virat Kohli on the field.
The first match of the current ODI series was tied. After this, the Indian team had to face defeat by 32 runs in the second match. Sri Lanka has created history at home after 27 years. They have defeated the Indian cricket team in a bilateral ODI series at home for the first time since 1997. Earlier in August 1997, the Sri Lankan team led by Arjuna Ranatunga defeated the Indian team led by Sachin Tendulkar. Then Sri Lanka won the 4-match ODI series 3-0. Then one match was inconclusive.
The Indian team has played a total of 10 bilateral ODI series (including the current series) against the hosts on Sri Lankan soil. Out of these, the Indian team has won 5 series and Sri Lanka has won 3 series. 2 series were draws.
This is Gambhir’s first ODI series as a coach
This was Gautam Gambhir’s first ODI series as head coach and he lost it. He looked helpless sitting in the dugout throughout the series. Match after match, the Indian team seemed to be falling apart against the spinners. But Gambhir failed to overcome this weakness of the team, at least this was seen in this series.
Kohli’s performance in the series was also very poor
Star batsman Virat Kohli has been able to score only 38 runs in two matches so far. He has lost his wicket easily which has been a matter of concern for the team. Kohli was expected to perform well in the last match, but he got out after scoring 20 runs. In this way, he could score only 58 runs in total in this series. This is a very poor performance according to Kohli’s stature.

If we look at the record of both the teams against each other, Indian team has an upper hand. Till now 171 One Day International matches have been played between India and Sri Lanka. During this period India won 99 matches, while Sri Lanka won 59 matches. Whereas 11 matches remained inconclusive. Apart from this, two matches also ended in a tie.
