Skoda Kylaq: Tata-Maruti, Hyundai will all compete together! This cool compact SUV is coming

In the last few years, the compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment has grown rapidly in the Indian market. This segment has attracted people with its sporty look, low price, low maintenance along with better mileage. Till now, cars like Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and the recently launched Mahindra XUV 3XO have been popular in this segment. Now a new player is going to enter. Skoda India has finally revealed the name of its new compact SUV after a long wait, the company has named this SUV ‘Skoda Kylaq’.

Why the name Kylaq?

The company says that the name matches Skoda’s traditional ICE SUV nomenclature, which starts with ‘K’ and ends with ‘Q’. The name is derived from the Sanskrit word for crystal, which reflects both the ancient qualities and inspiration of the vehicle. The name ‘Kailak’ is inspired by the ‘Kailash Mountain’, which stands firmly even in difficult times, as a unique proof of the majestic grandeur and beauty of centuries.

Let us tell you that Skoda had run a campaign in February to decide the name of its upcoming SUV. At that time, the company had proposed names like Kwiq, Kymaq, Kylaq, Kariq, and Kyroq in English. All these names start with ‘K’, but their meaning and sentiment are completely different from each other. These names reflect India’s heritage, sovereignty and integrity. Voting was conducted to choose one of these names, in which ‘Kylaq’ got the most votes.

What will the new Skoda Kylaq be like:

This new compact SUV from Skoda will be basically based on the (MQB A0-IN) platform, which is the backbone of both Skoda and Volkswagen. Kushak and Slovo are also built on this platform. The company recently showed some design elements of this SUV through a teaser. It is possible that this SUV can be launched with a 1.0 liter TSI turbo-petrol engine. This engine generates 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque. It is expected to be mated to a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission.

Kylaq will be the third car under the Skoda India 2.0 program. Looking at the teaser image, it can be said that it can be given split headlamp setup, LED daytime running lights, new grille, new design bonnet and inverted L-shaped taillights. New design alloy wheels and roof rails will also be seen in it. Although no information has been revealed about its features yet, it is expected to be equipped with advanced technology.

The cabin of this SUV can have a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play, fully digital driver display, ventilated front seat, wireless phone charger and sunroof. For safety, 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and 360-degree camera can also be included as standard.

What will be the price:

Although it is a bit difficult to say anything about the price of Skoda Kylaq before the launch, it is believed that the company can launch this SUV in the market at a starting price of Rs 8.50 lakh. After coming into the market, this SUV will directly compete with cars like Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza.
