Thai authorities are investigating the deaths of six foreign nationals found in a luxury hotel suite in downtown Bangkok. The victims, comprising three Vietnamese Americans and four Vietnamese citizens, were discovered by hotel staff on Tuesday afternoon.
Initial reports had suggested a shooting incident, but police have since dismissed these claims, stating there were no signs of gunfire. Instead, authorities are now focusing on the possibility of poisoning as the cause of death.
According to the Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, the group of six had originally booked accommodations for seven people, but only five had checked in. The missing seventh individual is currently unaccounted for, and authorities are actively seeking their whereabouts.

The bodies were found in a room on the fifth floor of the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, a renowned five-star establishment in Bangkok’s commercial and diplomatic district. Police reported that the room had been locked from the inside, and there were no indications of a struggle. Untouched hotel food was found wrapped in clingfilm, but the six cups in the room had been used, with traces of an unknown substance detected in the bottoms.
Authorities believe the victims may have passed away at least a day before their grim discovery. The Prime Minister has ordered a swift investigation into the matter, emphasizing the urgency to address the situation and mitigate any potential impact on Thailand’s vital tourism industry, which has been working to recover from the pandemic-induced downturn.
