Sharda canal water entered the villages of Sitapur in UP by cutting the road, flood in more than two dozen villages

It is raining heavily these days in Biswa tehsil of Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, due to which Sharda canal burst near Rushad village on Biswan-Mahmudabad road on Monday at 11 am. Cutting off about three hundred meters of road, water started entering Rushad, Sadhupur, Mahariya, Hussainpur, Akbapur and other villages situated in the north direction rapidly and within no time, water engulfed about 50 villages. Thousands of acres of crops of the village have also been submerged. There is an atmosphere of panic among the people after seeing the fierce form of the canal.

A road about 6 feet high built in Biswan area of ​​Sitapur has collapsed and got separated. Due to the rupture of the left track of Sharda Sahayak Canal, the flow has reached the village rapidly and there is devastation everywhere. The canal department under the Jal Shakti Department, which was not alert till now, came into action after the incident and with the help of JCB, the separated road is being filled, so that the canal water can be stopped from entering the village.

Some people’s houses were destroyed, some people’s homes were washed away

Due to the bursting of Sharda Canal, the water has taken a raging form and many houses have been destroyed. Some houses have been destroyed and some homes have been washed away. The women present in the village said that suddenly the water came and everyone said run, run, they left everything and ran away, when they came back they saw that everything was destroyed.

With moist eyes the villagers pleaded for help

Water has receded from some parts of the village, but the wet soil has also become a cause of trouble. Crops have been destroyed. Ram Kumari, a local resident, whose hut has been swept away by the speed of the water and now her eyes are filled with tears.

The villagers told Aaj Tak that if the canal department officials had assessed the erosion in time during the rainy season, this would not have happened. The erosion often weakens during the rainy season and one part of it weakened so much that the water swept away the entire road, due to which the entire village was flooded. The wall of the government school in the middle of the village is half broken and the school is also flooded with water.

However, on this whole matter, Uttar Pradesh’s Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh says that the canal erosion has happened due to digging done by animals. Sitapur Biswan’s SDM told Aaj Tak that the canal department team is busy repairing the eroded area. All the departments are doing their work and this is a natural disaster. After the incident, the administration also conducted a survey with drones and the stranded people were evacuated with the help of steamers and boats. The local administration took the villagers to relief camps. Late night Divisional Commissioner Dr. Roshan Jacob also reached the spot and took stock of the situation. District Magistrate Abhishek Anand, ADM Nitish Singh and other officials were present at the spot till late night.
