Sharad Pawar praised Bangladesh interim government chief Mohammad Yunus, said- he is secular, will not let a rift come between two communities

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday said that Bangladesh’s interim government chief Mohammad Yunus is a ‘secular’ leader and he will ensure that there is no rift between all communities in the neighbouring country. Hindus in Bangladesh have been facing violence since the coup of the Sheikh Hasina government. The neighbouring country has seen a rise in crime against Hindus and attacks on temples. The violence began with student protests against the quota system and turned into a massive revolt against then PM Sheikh Hasina, which forced her out of power.

Economist Muhammad Yunus (84) was sworn in as chief adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government on Thursday.

Police missing amid violence and arson

Although the anger in Bangladesh has calmed down compared to earlier, the marks of violence and arson are still fresh. Karim Ul Haque, a supporter of the Awami League party, told Aaj Tak that on that day the rioters not only destroyed the office but also looted goods worth lakhs of rupees. From the room of the party chief Sheikh Hasina to the party’s meeting hall and all parts of the building have either been burnt or destroyed.

Meanwhile, the police is missing from the streets of Bangladesh. The police headquarters in the middle of the city is also deserted, which is now being guarded by the Bangladesh Army. During the protest, stones were pelted on the police personnel, and the police headquarters was also targeted, the marks of which are still fresh. Some policemen came to protest outside the dilapidated and deserted headquarters on Sunday, who want to go back to their jobs.
