Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan has been arrested by ED. Earlier, ED raided his house in the morning. He has been arrested after several hours of raid. He has been arrested in the alleged Waqf scam of Delhi.
Amanatullah Khan is an MLA from Okhla seat of Delhi. He is accused of misusing his position as the chairman of Delhi Waqf Board and appointing his close ones.
What is Delhi’s Waqf scam?
The SDM (Headquarters) of the Revenue Department of the Delhi Government had filed a complaint against the then chairman of the Waqf Board, Amanatullah Khan, in November 2016.
In this complaint, it was alleged that Amanatullah Khan made arbitrary and illegal appointments to several sanctioned and unsanctioned posts of the Waqf Board. Amanatullah is accused of illegally recruiting a total of 32 people.
When the CBI investigated, it was found that Amanatullah Khan, along with Mehboob Alam, misused his position, deliberately ignored the rules and manipulated the recruitment process and arbitrarily appointed his favourites. This caused a loss to the government treasury.
The CBI also found in its investigation that if the recruitment process was transparent and fair, qualified people could have got employment. After this, the CBI registered a case in this matter. After the CBI, the ED also registered a case to investigate money laundering in this matter.
Red diary increased the problem!
In September 2022, during the investigation of this scam, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) found an important evidence. The ACB found a red diary from the house of Kaushar Imam Siddiqui alias Laddan. Kaushar is considered close to Amanatullah.
According to ACB, this red diary contained many secrets of Amanatullah and entries of transactions worth crores of rupees were also written in it.
ACB suspected that crores of rupees mentioned in the diary were sent from Dubai through hawala. It is claimed that this diary is from Amanatullah’s account.
