A case has been filed against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several other people, including former ministers of her cabinet, on charges of kidnapping a lawyer. This is the second case against Sheikh Hasina (76 years old) after she resigned.

According to a report in The Daily Star newspaper, Supreme Court lawyer Sohail Rana, the victim of the enforced disappearance case, has filed a case application. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakeela Sumu Chowdhury’s court ordered the registration of the case.

The case involves former home minister of Sheikh Hasina’s then cabinet Asaduzzaman Khan, former law minister Anisul Haque, former inspector general of police (IGP) Shahidul Haque, former Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) director general Benazir Ahmed and 25 unidentified RAB members.

The report quoted Advocate Sohail Rana as saying that on 10 February 2015, I was detained from Sector 5 of Uttara and forcibly made to sit in a car. As soon as I got inside the car, I was made unconscious by giving electric shocks in my ears and private parts. He said that during that time I was given many types of cruel tortures. Finally, I was released in Godagri, Rajshahi in August.

Let us tell you that earlier a murder case was registered against Sheikh Hasina and 6 other accused in the case of the death of a grocery shop owner during violent clashes last month. More than 230 people were killed in Bangladesh in violent incidents that broke out across the country after the resignation of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5. While the death toll in Bangladesh has risen to 560 since the anti-reservation protests began in July.

An interim government was formed after the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina-led government and its chief adviser, 84-year-old Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, last week announced the portfolios of his 16-member advisory council.
