Sawan Putrada Ekadashi 2024: Ekadashi has great importance in Hinduism. Ekadashi Tithi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The festival of Putrada Ekadashi is celebrated on the Ekadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. It is also known as Pavitra Ekadashi. According to religious beliefs, all the troubles of life of the person who observes fast on this day are removed and he attains Baikunth Dham.
According to Shri Padmapuran, in Dwapar Yuga, King Mahijit of Mahishmatipuri was very peaceful and religious but he had no son. The well-wishers of the king told this to Mahamuni Lomesh. Mahamuni told that the king had committed some atrocities in his previous life. Once on the day of Ekadashi, he reached a reservoir in the afternoon. Seeing a thirsty cow drinking water there, he stopped it and started drinking water himself. The king doing this was against religion. Due to some good deeds of his previous life, he became a king in his next life, but due to that one sin, he is childless till now.
Mahamuni told that if all the well-wishers of the king observe fast on the Ekadashi Tithi of Shravan Shukla Paksha according to the rules and give its merit to the king, then he will definitely get a child. On the advice of Mahamuni, the king along with the subjects also observed this fast. After a few months, the queen gave birth to a son. It is believed that since then this Ekadashi came to be known as Shravan Putrada Ekadashi.
Method of fasting on Shravan Putrada Ekadashi (Sawan Putrada Ekadashi Pujan Vidhi)
On this day, after taking bath, one should wear clean clothes. After this, light a ghee lamp in front of the idol of Lord Vishnu. Worship the Lord with Tulsi, fruits and sesame seeds. This fast should be observed without any food. You can eat fruits after the evening worship. After listening to the story of Putrada Ekadashi, reciting Vishnusahasranama gives special blessings of Lord Vishnu. Night vigil on Ekadashi is also very important.
