The month of Sawan has begun. This month holds religious importance in Hindu customs. This month is especially important for the devotees of Lord Shiva. In this month, great care is taken about food and drink. There are many things that are given up in Sawan. People are advised to eat satvik food by giving up non-vegetarian food and onion-garlic in this month. Apart from giving up all this, it is also said in the scriptures to give up greens, curd and curry in Sawan. There are religious and scientific reasons for this.

Today we will tell you why you should not eat curd, milk and vegetables during the month of Sawan.

What is the religious reason?

Eating satvik food is believed to increase purity and spirituality. Satvik food is fresh and light. Kadhi and saag are undoubtedly nutritious but they do not meet the satvik principles due to the way they are prepared.

Apart from this, it is claimed that Lord Shiva loves nature and natural things very much. That is why everything from bhang leaves to bel leaves are offered to him. Shivling is anointed with milk and curd. In such a situation, the pundits say that it is wrong to eat the things with which we worship Lord Shiva as food. In such a situation, greens, milk and curd should not be consumed in Sawan.

What is the scientific reason?

As soon as the month of Sawan starts, light rains start, due to which the infestation of animals, germs and viruses in the environment also increases. We all know that curd is made from bacteria only. In such a situation, it is avoided because it is associated with tamasic qualities.

According to Ayurveda, tamasic food can cause lethargy. Apart from this, eating curd can also cause cold and cough. Due to this, the spiritual practice of devotees is also hampered.

Insects are also found in leafy vegetables, which contaminates the leaves. These leaves are consumed by animals that give us milk. Due to this, consumption of dairy products like milk, cheese etc. is prohibited in the month of Sawan.
