Salman Khan did not want to work with Govinda in the film ‘Partner’, David Dhawan told why?

The pair of David Dhawan and Govinda has been the top director-actor pair of their time. Both of them worked together in 17 films and most of them proved to be big hits. In his new interview, David has talked about working with Govinda in that era. The director also told that he was the only one who could ‘handle’ the actor then. He also told that Salman Khan was not particularly interested in working with Govinda in the film ‘Partner’.

David used to handle Govinda

In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, David Dhawan said that Govinda was the king of improvisation, which benefited him. He worked with David in films like ‘Raja Babu’, ‘Hero No. 1’, ‘Coolie No. 1’, ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’ and others. According to the director, he also had a ‘special language’ with Govinda, in which he used to talk when a scene was not going according to plan. He said, ‘I used to say the scene is rubber, it is stretched’. Govinda used to say, ‘David, I do the entire scene in one shot.’

On his working relationship with Govinda, David further said, ‘I was the only one who could handle him. He has also given me a lot of respect.’ In such a situation, when the director was asked if Govinda used to reach late on the sets of his films, David replied, ‘My work used to finish by then.’

Salman was not interested

After this, David Dhawan talked about working with Salman Khan and Govinda in the film ‘Partner’. He told that he had also talked to producer Sohail Khan about casting both the actors together. He said, ‘I had said can we take Govinda and Salman bhai together? He said this is a very good idea. We went to Salman bhai, he was not particularly interested in this. I told him come on friend, let’s do this. This will be a big thing.’

Meanwhile, David Dhawan recalled what Salman Khan had said to him during the shooting of ‘Partner’ in Bangkok. The director said, ‘Salman told me one day, when we were shooting in Bangkok. He said, David yaar, fight with this… there is no use.’ The film ‘Partner’ was released in the year 2007. David Dhawan last directed his son Varun Dhawan’s film ‘Coolie No. 1’, which was a remake of Govinda’s film of the same name.
