Ronny Jackson, a former physician to Presidents Obama and Trump, has been providing medical care to former President Donald Trump following the recent assassination attempt. However, a recent investigation has revealed that Jackson’s medical licenses in Virginia and Florida have expired, raising questions about his legal authority to treat patients.
According to TMZ, Jackson’s Virginia medical license expired in 2020, while his Florida license expired when he retired from the Navy in 2019. Despite this, Jackson has been actively treating Trump, even providing a detailed memo describing his evaluation of the former president’s condition.
The Dallas Morning News reports that while Jackson is no longer licensed to practice medicine in Virginia or Florida, he is still certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine until 2025. However, it remains unclear if this certification alone grants him the legal authority to provide medical care to Trump.

The investigation also uncovered a previous incident in 2023, where Jackson was detained by police officers while attempting to render aid to a 15-year-old girl who was having a seizure at a Texas rodeo. Body cam footage showed Jackson in handcuffs, yelling expletives at the officers while still trying to reach the girl. Jackson later apologized for his language but stood by his decision to intervene in a life-threatening situation.
As the investigation continues, questions remain about the legality of Jackson’s actions and the potential implications for Trump’s medical care. The former president’s team has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
