Meeting between leaders amid border dispute

The ministry said, ‘The Foreign Minister emphasized the need to completely withdraw troops from the remaining areas in eastern Ladakh and redouble efforts to restore peace on the border so that all obstacles in the way of normalization of bilateral relations are removed.’ This meeting between these leaders has taken place amid the ongoing border dispute between India and China in eastern Ladakh. The deadlock between the armies of India and China has been going on since May 2020. Although both sides have retreated from many areas of conflict, the border dispute has not been fully resolved yet. There was a deadly clash between the soldiers of the two countries in June 2020 in the Galwan Valley in which a large number of soldiers from both sides were killed. The last talks to resolve the dispute between the two sides were held in February.
