Reetika Hooda, Paris Olympics 2024: Reetika Hooda’s quarterfinal match was a 1-1 ‘draw’, yet why did the Indian wrestler lose, there is still a chance for a medal

Indian wrestler Ritika Hooda had to face defeat in the quarter-finals of the Women’s 76 kg Freestyle Wrestling. In the quarter-finals played on July 10, Ritika was defeated by top seed and two-time World Championship medalist Aperi Kaiji of Kyrgyzstan. At the end of the match, the score was tied at 1-1. But the last point was scored by Aperi Kaiji, due to which she managed to become the winner.

Ritika’s quarterfinal match was very tough and both wrestlers scored 1-1 points through passivity. Let us tell you that in freestyle wrestling, passivity is also used to make the match aggressive. This happens when no wrestler scores a single point within the first two minutes. In such a case, the wrestler who is less aggressive has to score one point under 30 seconds. If that wrestler does not score a point within thirty seconds, then the opposing team gets one point.

In the first half, Ritika Hooda took 1 point through passivity. Then in the second half, the wrestler from Kyrgyzstan took 1 point through passivity. According to the rules of wrestling, the wrestler who scores the last technical point wins. Since the last point was scored by the wrestler from Kyrgyzstan, she won.

Ritika

In the pre-quarterfinal match, Ritika Hooda defeated Hungarian wrestler Bernadette Nagy 12-2. Ritika completely overpowered the Hungarian wrestler in the pre-quarterfinal match. Ritika won on the basis of technical superiority. Let us tell you that if a wrestler takes a lead of 10 points, then the match is ended right there.
