Rape case: TMC MP in trouble for raising questions on Kolkata Police, summoned for spreading ‘fake news’

Senior Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Ray has been accused of posting “false information” on X regarding the ongoing investigation into the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case. In this regard, Kolkata Police has sent a notice to Sukhendu Ray and asked him to appear at the police headquarters at 4 pm today.

In a tweet, Sukhendu Ray demanded a strict investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has taken over the investigation of the rape and murder case. Ray tweeted, “CBI should work impartially. It is necessary to take the former principal and police commissioner into custody and interrogate them to find out who spread the suicide story and why? Why was the wall of the hall demolished, who patronised Roy to make him so powerful? Why was a sniffer dog used after 3 days? There are hundreds of such questions, let them speak.”

The police have sent a notice to Ray for this post. The police claimed that Ray had tweeted “false information” about sniffer dogs being deployed at the crime scene three days later. Kolkata Police said in a statement, “The information that the sniffer dog was sent after three days is completely false. The sniffer dog was sent twice, on the 9th and then on the 12th (August). Sukhendu Shekhar Ray has been sent a notice under Section 35(1) of the BNS.”
