A case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor has come to light in RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, West Bengal. The body of a trainee doctor has been recovered from the seminar hall of the college. The police have registered a case of rape in this matter and a person has also been arrested on the basis of CCTV. After this case came to light, the local BJP is continuously protesting and holding candle marches.
The police arrested a temporary worker named Sanjoy Roy after examining CCTV footage from Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. A case of rape has been registered and is being investigated along with the murder case related to the death of the 31-year-old graduate medical student.

The trainee doctor died during treatment
It is being told about the trainee doctor that she was a second year student and was found in the seminar hall on 9th August at 11.30 am. It is being told that she was in an unconscious state at that time but she died soon during treatment.
Mamata spoke to the victim’s family
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has spoken to the victim’s parents, who have requested a fair investigation into the case. The police is investigating the matter further. The police have also conducted a postmortem of the trainee doctor’s body. Bengal Police has formed an SIT to investigate the case. The initial postmortem report has indicated sexual assault and murder.
“She was bleeding from both eyes and mouth, and had injuries on her face and nails. The victim’s private parts were also bleeding. She also had injuries on her stomach, left leg…neck, right arm, and…lips,” the report said. Two female witnesses and the woman’s mother were present during the post-mortem, which was conducted on camera. Another senior Kolkata Police official said the crime took place between 3 and 6 am.
‘Wounds on the body, died after treatment’, BJP leader
On the alleged sexual assault case of the trainee doctor, senior BJP leader Agnimitra Paul said that the girl had injuries on her body. The girl died after treatment. We want an inquiry to be held. She also opposed the postmortem of the trainee doctor’s body and asked, “Why was the postmortem done in the evening?”
Postmortem should be done outside
Kolkata doctor Manas Gumta said on the matter that this is a shocking incident. This has never happened before. It is not only about doctors. We can say that West Bengal has gone into the hands of goons, and we feel that the administration is trying to suppress the facts and try to call it a suicide. For these reasons, we demand that the postmortem should be done by forensic experts from outside RG Kar Hospital, and not by forensic experts of RG Kar Hospital.
He also protested with the students and appealed for strict action against the accused. RG Kar College Principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh also said on this matter, “This is very wrong. She was like my daughter and action should be taken as soon as possible.”
