Rain has become a disaster in Uttarakhand, 12 people have died so far, many rivers are in spate

Due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand on Thursday, 12 people have died so far, including three members of the same family. Due to continuous rains, flood-like situation has arisen in many areas of this hill state.

According to the news agency, officials said that due to heavy rains overnight, several rivers got flooded and many rivers were in spate, so far 12 people have died and six are injured. Among the dead, six have died in Haridwar, three in Tehri, two in Dehradun and one in Chamoli.

The disaster control room said that a seven-year-old boy, who was swept away by a raging stream in Haldwani in Nainital district, is still missing. Regarding the continuously deteriorating weather in Uttarakhand, Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh said that two people – Sundar Singh and Arjun Singh Rana were swept away by the water of an overflowing canal near the Ordnance Factory in Raipur area. The bodies of both of them have been recovered.

Due to heavy rains, water entered many houses in Dehradun and there was heavy waterlogging on the roads at many places in the city. The Meteorological Department said that in the last 24 hours, 172 mm of rain was recorded in Dehradun alone.

Highest rain in Dehradun

Roshanabad in Haridwar received the highest rainfall of 210 mm, Raiwala received 163 mm, while Haldwani received 140 mm, Roorkee received 112 mm, Narendra Nagar received 107 mm, Dhanolti received 98 mm, Chakrata received 92 mm and Nainital received 89 mm. Meanwhile, the body of a woman who was missing since Wednesday evening after a house collapsed in Devchauli in Chamoli has been found.

Four people were killed and six injured when a house collapsed due to heavy rains in Bharpur village of Bahadarabad area of ​​​​Haridwar district on Wednesday night, police said. In another incident reported from Haridwar, two people were struck by lightning amid rain at Roorkee bus stand.

Three members of the same family died in a landslide

Three members of a family – Bhanu Prasad (50), his wife Neelam Devi (45) and son Vipin (28) – died in a landslide following a cloudburst in Jakhanyali village in Ghansali area of ​​Tehri. Their roadside dhaba was also damaged. Tehri District Disaster Management Officer Brijesh Bhatt said Vipin was rescued but he died while being taken to AIIMS for treatment.

CM Dhami visited the disaster affected area

At the same time, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the disaster-affected Jakhanyali village and met the families of the deceased and consoled them. CM Dhami said that the government stands with the people affected by the flood rains and all possible assistance will be provided to them.

He has directed the Tehri District Magistrate to make arrangements for road connectivity, electricity and drinking water supply in the affected areas to restore normalcy. On the other hand, more than 1,500 pilgrims stranded on the Kedarnath footpath have been sent to safer places because due to rain, stones are continuously falling from the mountain on the roads.
