The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a new update regarding rain. The IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert for 15 states of North India amid forecasts of moderate to heavy rains. Situation worsened due to floods in Assam-Uttarakhand

Meanwhile, the flood situation in Assam worsened on Tuesday with three more people losing their lives and more than 11.3 lakh people in 23 districts affected by the floods. The death toll has risen to 48. Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, floods continue to wreak havoc in many parts of the state and the water level of the river has reached close to the danger mark. Excavation work going on along the Alaknanda river created a flood-like situation and the water submerged Brahmakapal for some time and reached the border of Taptkund close to the Badrinath temple, causing fear among the devotees.

Monsoon reached the whole country

The weather department said the southwest monsoon covered the entire country on July 2, six days ahead of schedule, while its pace was extremely slow in June when the country was grappling with sweltering heat. The monsoon arrived over Kerala and the northeast region on May 30, two and six days ahead of normal. The southwest monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, the IMD said in a statement. It covered the entire country on July 2, 2024, against the normal date of July 8. India recorded below normal rainfall in mid-June, leading to below normal rainfall in June overall, with the month receiving 147.2 mm rainfall against the normal 165.3 mm, the seventh lowest since 2001. This is the third consecutive year that the southwest monsoon has covered the entire country ahead of schedule, the IMD said.
