Rahul Naveen becomes the new director of ED, appointed by committee headed by PM Modi

The central government has appointed IRS officer Rahul Naveen as the director of the Enforcement Directorate. He is a 1993 batch IRS officer. He was working as the acting director of the agency till now. He was made the acting director of ED on September 15 last year after the completion of the tenure of Sanjay Kumar Mishra.

Before being appointed as the ED’s in-charge director, Rahul Naveen was working with Sanjay Mishra. By working with him, he gained experience in running the agency. A committee headed by Prime Minister Modi has appointed Rahul Naveen as the head of ED. For example, he has been promoted from acting director to ED chief.

He became the acting director of ED in 2023

Rahul Naveen is a 1993 batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) officer. He took over as acting director on 15 September 2023 on the expiry of the tenure of former ED director Sanjay Kumar Mishra. He is known for his better track record within the agency, in whose presence the agency unearthed many big cases.

More than 100 politicians are under the scanner of ED

The central government had issued an ordinance last year, under which the tenure of the ED and CBI chiefs can be extended to three years after the stipulated period of two years. Currently, more than 100 political leaders of the country are being investigated by the ED, about 95 percent of whom are from opposition parties.

Sanjay Mishra resigned from his post after the Supreme Court’s decision

Sanjay Mishra was appointed as the ED director on November 19, 2018 for a two-year term. However, his tenure was extended multiple times, leading to controversy. The Supreme Court later declared Mishra’s third extension illegal. Despite this, the government requested the court to allow Mishra to continue as the ED chief till October 2023, but the court granted his extension till September 15.

Govind Mohan was made Home Secretary

Govind Mohan has been appointed as Home Secretary. He is a 1989 batch IAS officer. Govind Mohan is the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture.
