Rahul Gandhi Assam Tour: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will meet the flood victims of Assam on Monday, July 8. Rahul will reach Kumbhigram airport in Silchar, Cachar district of Assam in the morning while going to violence-affected Manipur. A spokesperson of the state Congress said, ‘From the airport, Rahul Gandhi will go to the flood relief camp in Lakhipur and will talk to the people taking shelter there.’
He said that this camp is on the route through which Gandhi will travel to Jiribam district of Manipur. Around 22.70 lakh people have been affected by floods in 28 districts of Assam. A total of 78 people have died in floods, landslides and storms in the state this year.
Gandhi, a former Congress president, will return from Jiribam to Silchar airport and fly to Imphal for the next leg of his Manipur tour. This will be Rahul Gandhi’s first visit to the Northeast after becoming the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Security has been tightened in Manipur’s Jiribam district and photography using drones has been banned ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit on Monday. A notification issued by the Jiribam district magistrate on Sunday said that in a step up in security measures, aerial photography or videography using drones, balloons or any other means has been strictly prohibited.
Inspection of relief camps where Rahul is likely to visit
The notification stressed that violation of this order would invite legal action under Section 223 of the Indian Justice Code and other relevant provisions of the law. In preparation for Gandhi’s one-day visit to the violence-hit state, a team of Congress state unit leaders, including working president Victor Keishing and AICC Manipur in-charge Girish Choudankar, inspected the relief camps he is likely to visit.
Discussion on Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state
Manipur Congress president Casham Meghchandra and other party functionaries have already left from Imphal for Jiribam district to welcome their leader.Earlier in the day, Congress leaders from Manipur discussed the visit of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to the state. Gandhi will visit Manipur on Monday and interact with violence-affected people in Jiribam, Churachandpur and Imphal. He will spend the entire day with the people of the state.
